About us

The Office de Tourisme de la MRC des Appalaches is a non-profit making organization whose mandate is to develop and promote tourism of the region. 

The region of Thetford is located in the heart of the Appalachians mountains. Our region is an hour drive from Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Victoriaville, Lac Mégantic and St-Georges, a two-hour drive from Trois-Rivières and Drummondville and a three-hour drive from Montreal.

Our region

The Municipalités Régionales de Comté des Appalaches includes 19 municipalities, Thetford Mines being the largest one with a population of approximately 26 190.

Rich in contrasts with mining landscapes, lakes, forests, rich heritage our region offers you a variety of sites to visit, activities, events, accommodations and restaurants.

Heritage and history

Discover more about the British, Irish and Scottish families who settled in our region by visiting the villages of Kinnear's Mills and St-Jacques-de-Leeds. A guided tour of both sites will bring you back in time.

Travel along the two historical Craig and Gosford roads, built at the beginning of the 19th century allowing the colonization of the region, will bring to pass through many villages. Signs along the way will lead you to churches, cemeteries and lookout points.

Discover the heritage of Thetford Mines by visiting the St-Alphonse Church, the Station des arts and the Magasin général O'Brien.

Get ready to embark on a fascinating mining and mineralogical adventure, to explore the geological history of the Appalachians mountains all of this at the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines.

Enjoy a unique experience by taking a guided tour of an open-pit mine. You will be impressed to see the hugeness of the machinery needed to extract the mineral. A stop a the Jean-Dupéré theme park will allow you to climb aboard a hundred-ton truck, a six-yard truck, a great place to take pictures.

Activities

The Pavillon de la Faune offers you a guided tour of an impressive collection of North American animals, mounted and displayed in a natural-looking environment.

Our tourist information office

Open year-round and very well situated on Frontenac Boulevard (route 112), our office provides information about the Thetford region, the greater region of Chaudière-Appalaches and information about all of Quebec's other tourist regions.

Passes nearby is the cycling path and winter-time snowmobile and ATV trails.

We also offer other facilities such as a picnic area, a dumping station for trailers.

A seasonal office situated in Beaulac-Garthby on the waterfront of lake Aylmer is in operation from June 24th to September 6th daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
